The sea has always been there, either as the focus or the background. Whether I was diving into it, watching it, seeking advice from it, or letting it “heal” me, the water held a calming power—a way of imposing balance. This film is an ode to the sea itself, a collage of pixelated memories that effortlessly come to life before me. I created it in Berlin in the summer of 2022, driven by a need to escape, to be near the salty water, to try to piece together fragments of the past, to reflect, to remember—and, ultimately, to rediscover how salty my memories are.  The sea once again became the refuge it has always been—a source of inspiration and tranquility, a point of reference along my path.

How many pixels make up a memory?

The surveillance aspect is far from novel—Berlin ranks as the second most monitored city in Europe, with nearly 40,000 cameras equating to approximately 11.2 cameras per 1,000 residents. This work takes this reality as its starting point, aiming to creatively interpret and visualize the data these cameras collect through the lens of cubism.

Just as cubist painters depicted reality by combining multiple simultaneous perspectives, surveillance cameras capture us from all angles, akin to a 360-degree view. This piece draws inspiration from cubism's principles but pushes the concept further by adding a third dimension and an element of surrealism.

From this exploration, a fragmented figure emerges—reconstructing reality in a way that is both familiar and otherworldly. It invites viewers to rethink surveillance and perception, transforming the act of observation into an artistic expression.

ART SPRING FESTIVAL - ONLINE OPEN ATELIER

I participated with my short film “after laughter comes laughter”, filmed in 2016 on a sunny summer afternoon in Thessaloniki.

It is an ode to laughter, to lightness, to the small simple things that keep us motivated and alive..

It is a burst of laughter in these times that we need it even more.

Enjoy and let yourself immerse in the good vibes.
